McDuffie Coal Terminal | Volkert Location: Mobile, AL Client: Alabama State Port Authority The McDuffie Coal Terminal at the Port of Mobile significantly expanded the port’s import and export capacity. The Alabama State Port Authority tabbed Volkert to provide design and engineering services for this vital infrastructure expansion. Volkert was responsible for the preliminary and final design of the facility, now capable of transloading over 23 million tons of coal annually. The project began in 1972 and expanded in three phases, the last completed in 1983. Volkert provided feasibility studies and budget estimates for a bond prospectus for the 96-acre facility.
