Trusted to deliver Case study // Hayle Viaduct CLIENT CONTRACT VALUE DATE COMPLETE Dyer & Butler £1.3m December 2014 THE CHALLENGE Hayle Viaduct is located South East of Hayle Station in Cornwall carrying the Penzance to Paddington main line MLN4. It consists of 36 piers carrying wrought iron plate girders. This structure had suffered severe deterioration. There was no waterproofing between the ballast and the timber decking other than where the viaduct passed over roads. This had resulted in extensive timber decay and corrosion to numerous elements of the steelwork. WHAT WE DID During a 16 day blockade we removed the track, replaced 4,500 rivets with TCBs, removed and replaced 750 life expired deck timbers, waterproofed the new timber deck and reinstated the track on this 37 spa
