To undertake a fish removal and relocation in support of the proposed Network Rail Carmuirs Tunnel upgrade on the Forth & Clyde Canal. - A strategy was devised to position a boat within the relevant section of canal to assist with the fish removal. This was achieved with the assistance of a BAM Nuttall heavy duty fork lift, which also removed the boat from the canal following completion of the fish capture. Removal of fish species was undertaken using boat-based electrofishing and netting techniques. Fish removals were carried out in reasonable accordance with SFCC guidelines on undertaking and managing electrofishing operations (SFCC, 2007), the JNCC marine monitoring handbook (for seine netting) and under licence that was issued by Marine Scotland (electrofishing and netting).
