The Challenge Urban Outfitters, Inc., operators of the Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People brands, saw increased sales and profits for the past several consecutive years. Consequently, their distribution operations required additional capacity. Our Solution The existing sorter was replaced with a bidirectional high-rate sliding-shoe sortation system from Dematic, the RS 200. It handles product coming from receiving into packing, and it also handles the packed cartons leaving packing going to shipping. One side of the sorter feeds the put- to-light system, and the other side of the sorter has 16 diverts to supply the shipping doors. The sliding shoe sorter uses software to execute high-rate, accurate package handling up to 150 cartons per minute. Interleaving
