Cruise Ship - Nine of the scrubber tank’s sulphur fuel discharge pipes required to be replaced.

Overview Nine of the scrubber tank’s sulphur fuel discharge pipes which were previously coated with a phenolic epoxy system had blistered, detached and corroded in several places and required to be replaced. This was caused by sulphur residues attacking the internal coating of the pipes. Challenge The coating system had to be capable of handling the sulphur residue; therefore a highly chemical resistant vinyl ester coating system was chosen. There was also a limited timeframe for project completion. Solution The internal surface of the pipes were grit blasted to Sa 21/2 standard.
