They needed new equipment and chose the MP40 diesel-electric locomotive, the first passenger locomotive in the US with a 4,000 hp Tier 3 diesel engine prime mover. LTK assisted Sound Transit with project management and engineering services, production inspection, and testing and commissioning. LTK ensured the finished locomotive was built in accordance with specifications, and that it was compatible with the existing Sound Transit locomotives and cars.
