THE PROBLEM The Abersannan road over river bridge has stood over for over 110 years. The arch bridge is of traditional stone construction and set in a beautiful countryside popular with cyclist and tourists. Significant cracks had developed in the bridge causing great concern. The cracks were attributed to spandrels separating from the soffit of the bridge. The bridge forms an essential road link for the local community and tourists, therefore any remedial solution would need to accommodate the bridge remaining open. THE SOLUTION Protectahome carried out a detailed inspection of the bridge and reviewed engineer’s reports provided by the local authority.
