Brookland Multi-Modal Transportation and Streetscape Study | Volkert Location: Washington, DC Client: District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Despite its proximity to Catholic University and its metro station, the Brookland community maintains a small town atmosphere with its numerous retail stores, local restaurants, and residential community. Volkert was contracted to study the corridors of Monroe Street, 12th Street and Michigan Avenue and additional intersections within the project area. The study focus was on comprehensive transportation and streetscape improvements that reduce traffic congestion; increase pedestrian safety; reduce truck traffic; and enhance public transit, bicycle access, and connectivity while enhancing the unique and diverse character of the community. Public
