Arctic Diesel Spill Response and Cleanup Location: Dalton Highway, 104 miles south of Deadhorse, Alaska NRC Scope NRC was called into action to assist the responsible party in containment and cleanup of approximately 2200 gallons of diesel fuel in a very remote location south of Deadhorse Alaska. The area impacted also covered a portion of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline buried in the permafrost below. Technical Challenge During this project ambient air temperatures hit a low of -49F Fahrenheit and were often accompanied by winds up to 30 miles per hour, resulting in a wind chill’s ranged down to -68F.
