Case Study: Oil Spill and Remediation Services, Georgia Location: Republic of Georgia NRC Scope NRC responded to a client request to clean-up remediate drilling pits at the clients’ oil exploration fields. The pits were heavily contaminated from oil and oil debris. Solution Three local NRC responders were mobilised as well as response equipment such as 4x4 vehicles, sorbents, PPE, pumps, skimmers, temporary storage tanks and absorbents. The clean-up activities encompassed the removal of oily debris concurrent with skimming operations. Dewatering of drilling pits, vacuuming and transferring oily water to the client indicated separating facility, removing oily sludge and pumping out surrounding areas. Backhoe excavation operation was required in some areas to remove heavy viscosity oils.
