Accelerating climate change modeling

Pages 5 Pages

The Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC) is deploying a new supercomputer, Cassandra, powered by Intel® Xeon® Max 9480 processors with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) to accelerate climate modeling and improve accuracy. Performance tests show Cassandra delivers up to 3.47x the speed of CMCC’s older clusters. It supports memory-bound workloads like NEMO, used for modeling ocean conditions, and cuts energy use with liquid-cooled Lenovo servers. This upgrade will enhance climate prediction capabilities, support more researchers, and reduce operating costs, helping CMCC better inform climate policy decisions.
