State of Ransomware 2024 Anticipating the battle and strengthening your defenses

Delinea’s 2024 State of Ransomware Report shows that over half of organizations were hit by ransomware in the past year, with incidents doubling since 2022. Mid-sized firms were most affected, and 76% of victims paid the ransom, often supported by cyber insurance. Revenue loss was the top consequence, alongside reputational damage and layoffs. Attackers now favor data exfiltration over encryption, targeting cloud infrastructure and privileged access instead of email. Investment in Privileged Access Management and incident response planning rose sharply, though larger budgets alone did not ensure better protection. Delinea stresses least privilege, PAM, and proactive, layered defense strategies.
