A new IQVIA white paper examines whether patients benefit from 340B drug discounts at contract pharmacies. Using national pharmacy claims data from July 2020 to June 2024, it found that 340B discount cards remain the main mechanism for passing savings to patients, but their use was very limited. Only 0.17% of all branded prescriptions at contract pharmacies involved a 340B card, and just 3.0% to 4.7% of branded 340B prescriptions used them. When applied, discounts were significant—averaging 87.5% off cash prices—but their reach fell far below the 32% of U.S. adults uninsured or underinsured.
