Introduction Public trust in governments around the world has been on the decline for years. Global research conducted by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) points out that “opinion surveys across a broader range of countries show a decline in trust in most public bodies since 2000.” In fact, trust in even some of the world’s largest governmental systems has hit historic lows, as evidenced in recent research conducted by the Pew Research Center, which points out that in the United States alone, trust in the national government has declined from 73% in 1958 to 20% in 2022.
