Dark Web Actors Promoting Maritime Data

Pages 10 Pages

ZeroFox’s January 2024 Flash Report reveals that dark web actors are selling real-time maritime data, including vessel locations, routes, and infrastructure details, likely for ideological rather than financial motives. Threat actors “APTlord” and “Drechsler” leaked source code from marinetraffic.com and French naval software ANAIS, exposing vulnerabilities in maritime tracking and intelligence systems. These actions coincide with Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, which disrupted 12–15% of global trade and increased shipping costs by up to 176%. ZeroFox warns that similar attacks could target major trade routes like the Malacca and South China Seas, highlighting the link between geopolitical tensions and cyber threats.
