In 2022, 28.5 million records were breached, with the average breach costing $10.1M, more than double the cross-industry average. Key threats include phishing, ransomware from groups like LockBit, Clop, and BlackCat, IoT and third-party vendor exposures, and vulnerability exploitation. Attackers often pivot from low-value footholds to critical systems, using malware such as infostealers, RATs, and ransomware. The report stresses layered defenses, proactive threat hunting, vendor risk management, and continuous monitoring to mitigate risks.
