More companies are setting Scope 3 emissions targets, driving a strong increase in overall climate commitments across all emissions scopes since 2018. The fastest growth has come from targets that include Scope 3, reflecting rising awareness of value chain emissions. However, near-term Scope 3 ambitions have remained relatively flat compared with Scope 1 and 2 targets, where companies report higher confidence in delivery. Ambition levels also vary by region, with European companies setting higher near-term Scope 3 targets on average than peers in the Americas or Asia-Pacific. While momentum is building, translating Scope 3 commitments into near-term action remains a key challenge.
