In Q4 2022, WatchGuard Threat Lab reported 11.8 million basic malware detections, down 5% from the previous quarter, while evasive malware dropped 19%. However, endpoint ransomware detections surged 627%, and encrypted malware spiked 220%, with 93% of malware hiding behind encryption. WatchGuard Fireboxes blocked nearly 3.9 million malicious domains, with EMEA seeing 42.1% of detections. Top threats included Trojan.Agent.GAUS, JS.Agent.UNS, and the njRAT remote access trojan. Notably, IntelligentAV successfully blocked a new, unsigned malware variant, showcasing the importance of machine-learning-driven defense.
