The 2022 Thales Cloud Security Study for Europe and the Middle East shows that 51% of respondents find managing privacy and data protection more complex in the cloud than on-premises. About 20% store over 60% of sensitive data with external providers. Data breaches and failed audits increased to 46% in 2022. Regulatory compliance drives 41% of encryption use, while 23% encrypt most cloud data. Key management remains fragmented, with 57% using five or more systems. Cloud console-based key management fell to 49%. Most enterprises continue shifting to multicloud environments through repurchasing and re-architecting applications.
