Lung ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging modality that is a valuable tool in the assessment of a wide range of pulmonary diseases. This application is based on the type of artifact generated when ultrasound waves travel through tissue and interface with aerated lung pleura. In general, this is a dichotomous decision. “A-patterns” or “A-lines” are ultrasound artifacts generated when sound waves interface with normal aerated lung pleura.
