The name Winyu stems from the traditional owners of the region, the Ngunnawal people, and translated means Sun. In consultation with the United Ngunnawal Elders Council it was chosen as it reflects the design features of the building and the glass atrium roof which allows the building to be flooded with natural sunlight.
