VR Steel Reduced Mass, Maintained Integrity, and Increased Performance

Pages 2 Pages

VR Steel sought to redesign mining truck load bodies to reduce weight without compromising durability or unloading efficiency. Using Altair EDEM, engineers simulated loading and unloading behavior of various materials and compared conventional and lightweight designs under identical conditions. Virtual prototyping demonstrated faster unloading, improved material flow, and reduced structural mass. The final design reduced body weight by 20%, lowered fuel consumption by 11%, and delivered annual fuel savings of roughly 70,000 liters per truck. Simulation eliminated the need for extensive physical prototyping and gave VR Steel a competitive advantage through faster, data-driven design validation.
