Tuscaloosa East Bypass | Volkert Location: Tuscaloosa, AL Client: Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) Volkert provided preliminary engineering, environmental studies, final design services and secured corridor approval for this 20-mile bypass which extends from I-59/I-20 to US 82 around North Tuscaloosa, including a bridge replacement at the Black Warrior River consisting of dual roadways with 56’ and 44’ widths. Volkert was responsible for conducting the corridor study for this project, which consisted of 5 separate noise analyses for various phases of the project, endangered species studies, and the completion of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation. Endangered species in the project area included the Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Aquatic Mussels, and Black Warrior
