BBC Chartering October 2015 - The Jirau hydroelectric project, a run-of-the-river power plant, sits on the Madeira River in the state of Rondônia, Brazil. The first unit of the 3,750MW plant was authorized in September 2013 with full commissioning of remaining units expected during 2015. Upon completion, Jirau will be the fourth-largest hydroelectric power plant in Brazil. The plant is expected to power about ten million homes while off-setting approximately six million tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Over the past 24 months, a total of volume of approximately 130,000 frt of power equipment and components had to be moved from Shanghai to Manaus, while matching the project’s overall procurement plan, ensuring a mission critical progress and supply.
