Case Study
Small-scale SCOOT
Ambleside is a popular destination in the English Lake District. Its location at the northern end of Lake Windermere means that it also has to handle a lot of through-traffic. Cumbria Highways knew that they could improve the flow on Compston Rd by co-ordinating the timing of the two pedestrian crossings (P1 and P2) with the signals at the junction J1. SCOOT loops were installed at the southern end of Compston Road (L on the map) alongside one of IDT’s meshI/O units (see left). The meshI/O unit connects to the output of an inductive loop detector and transmits the presence detection north along Compston Rd. On Bank Holiday weekends, and other peak times, the increased volume of traffic can cause significant delays with the central one-way system (see map) becoming heavily co
