Project Reference Safer Routes for Schools – Ysgol bro-eirwg City of Cardiff Council Background Many children are driven to school due to the perception that it is unsafe to walk; one of the concerns is high traffic speeds. This means more cars on school drop-offs & less children walking; resulting in increased traffic levels, congestion & pollution & low levels of exercise & adverse health effects on young people. The Ysgol Bro Eirwg project formed part of the client’s Safe Routes in the Community initiative; the primary aim of this scheme was to improve the pedestrian facilities & reduce the traffic speed on the approach of the school.
