Partial Discharge Testing of ‘Dry-type’ 11 kV Transformers with the PDS AirTM Handheld Test Unit 11 kV Transformer Distribution Network AA Sensors Safety Project A UK pharmaceutical manufacturer requested the development of an on-line partial discharge (OLPD) test regime for their 11 kV network, including numerous 1.6 MVA, 2.0 MVA and 2.5 MVA, 11 kV – 433 V, air-cooled, dry-type (resin) transformers. The OLPD test regime supported the operator’s new condition based maintenance (CBM) strategy for their 11 kV network. The network had been in service for around 30 years and, as per manufacturer’s instruction, the dry-type transformers had been operated indoors in a dry, warm, low humidity environment to ensure the dew point was not reached whereby ‘wetting’ and condensation of the insulation
