Newport City Council
To commemorate the city’s role as host of the Ryder Cup 2010, Newport City Council commissioned Forest of Dean Stone Firms to create a feature at the entrance of Newport Civic Centre using it’s Forest Pennant paving. The natural stone company had to meet a very tight deadline to ensure that the 4m x 3m paved area was delivered, laid and sealed in readiness for a one-year anniversary ceremony. Producing and delivering the finished piece in just 10 days, Forest of Dean Stone Firms used an epoxy crystal clear resin with gold flakes to recreate the Ryder Cup emblem, filling a 10mm rebate with the hard-setting substance. Letters were formed from black granite and were recessed into the Pennant sandstone along with a black enamel finish, stainless steel disc depicting the official 2010
