Netflix optimized its Amazon EC2 instances with Intel® Xeon® processors to improve streaming performance and reduce cloud costs. By using Intel tools like VTune™ Profiler, PerfSpect, and oneDNN with AVX instructions, Netflix achieved a 3.5x CPU performance gain, reduced latency, and accelerated video encoding during low-demand periods. This eliminated the need for GPUs, allowing multi-purpose use of EC2 instances and lowering total cloud spend. Intel’s micro-architecture insights enabled smoother, faster, and more cost-efficient streaming experiences for Netflix’s 260M+ subscribers.
