Case Study
National Grid Strategic Spare Transport & Installation
To replace a 167 tonne transformer quickly and safely when there has been acritical failure. - A National Grid transformer suffered a critical failure and needed to be removed and replaced with a strategic spare. The transformer was in Wiltshire but the spare unit was in the National Grid spare centre in Bedfordshire and could not be move directly due to the numerous bridges and other structures on route. Our solution was to take the unit to Tilbury Docks, a maintained heavy load route, and then ship to Avonmouth, the nearest seaport to the substation. We then moved the unit from the port to the substation over two weekends to reduce the impact on the local road infrastructure.
