LA Express Park : Parking Smarter with Demand Pricing

Pages 4 Pages

Los Angeles faced worsening congestion as drivers circled downtown searching for parking due to flat-rate pricing that ignored demand. In 2012, the city launched LA Express Park with Conduent, introducing demand-based pricing supported by real-time sensors, smart meters, and data analytics. Funded by $18.5 million in federal and city grants, the program aimed to increase parking availability, cut congestion, and reduce pollution. Results showed a 10 percent rise in parking availability, reduced time spent in spaces, and better turnover, with expanded coverage to Westwood, Hollywood, and Venice. The program also stabilized revenue and improved the driver experience.
