BAI Communications partnered with the Toronto Transit Commission to enhance operational efficiency and safety using Wi-Fi analytics. Originally designed in 2019 to detect subway overcrowding, the system was adapted during COVID-19 to monitor station occupancy and support physical distancing. By analyzing anonymized Wi-Fi data, the solution provides near real-time insights into crowd levels, with thresholds set for each station. A color-coded dashboard allowed operators to make informed scheduling decisions to reduce risks. Built in the cloud with existing infrastructure, the system enabled quick deployment and demonstrated the value of smart transit technologies.
