BACKGROUND Company: Small pharmaceutical company Indication: Herpes zoster (shingles) Phase: III CHALLENGE Eight weeks before the first patient’s initial visit, the FDA asked the sponsor to add an imaging endpoint to the clinical trial, with imaging at baseline, days 1-8 and days 15, 30 and 45. The elderly patient population would struggle to comply with the number and frequency of imaging visits, and as a result, subject enrollment and retention would likely suffer.
