Identifying Asthma Patients with Oral Corticosteroid Use

Pages 2 Pages

Hospitals used IQVIA’s Patient Finder with NLP-enabled EHR searches to detect uncontrolled asthma patients at risk from overuse of oral corticosteroids (OCS). Manual searches often missed these cases, but automated queries saved staff 85% of time while identifying patients who had not been referred to specialists. Around 3% of severe asthma patients were uncovered, offering new treatment opportunities. The tool improved adherence to guidelines, reduced OCS reliance, and strengthened referral pathways, supporting both clinical outcomes and hospital efficiency in managing severe asthma populations.
