The operator ran intermediate 7-5/8 inch casing, and while cementing realized they were losing returns. The problem area was close to the surface in shallow producing zones, meaning there was potential for communication between zones when the unconventional shale was fractured. This, in turn, could create a high-pressure gas zone that would be potentially hazardous when future offset wells were drilled.
