ENEA, Italy’s national agency for new technologies, is advancing nuclear fusion research by upgrading its computing infrastructure with 5th Gen Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8592+ processors and Intel® Data Center GPU Max 1550 accelerators. To support bandwidth-constrained workloads, ENEA added Intel® Xeon® Max 9480 processors with high-bandwidth memory. Using OneAPI, researchers can run the same code across CPUs, CPUs with HBM, and GPUs, simplifying development. The new CRESCO 8 cluster boosts performance up to 8x on CPUs and up to 41x on GPUs compared to previous systems, while improving energy efficiency with Lenovo’s liquid cooling technology.
