Situated at the foot of the Sperrin Mountains outside Omagh in County Tyrone, The Ulster American Folk Park is an open-air history museum which tells the story of hundreds of thousands of emigrants who left Ireland for America in the 18th and 19th Centuries. Opened to the public in 1976, the museum is funded by the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure, and amalgamated with the Ulster Museum, the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and Armagh Museum in 1998 to become part of the National Museums and Galleries of Northern Ireland (MAGNI). The museum currently employs 88 staff. The UAFP comprises both indoor and open-air exhibits, set on an eighty-acre site.
