De Lijn Introduces “Tap & Go” Ticketing System to Flanders Public Transportation

Pages 2 Pages

Flanders, facing heavy congestion and low public transport adoption, needed a simpler and more attractive ticketing system. De Lijn partnered with Conduent to launch a Tap & Go solution using the ATLAS Ops platform and VPE 430 validators, enabling direct contactless bank card payments and real-time account-based ticketing. Rolled out in two phases starting in 2020, the system allowed both occasional passengers and regular commuters to use debit or credit cards, smartphones, or other ID media for seamless travel. The upgrade removed barriers to access, supported personalized journeys, and set the foundation for integrating taxis, car sharing, and bike sharing into Flanders’ mobility ecosystem.
