Creating a community on the historic Queen's Hall site The Queen’s Hall in Widnes once played host to some top names including the Beatles and the Stone Roses but, when a fire destroyed the building in 2012, the hall had to be demolished. The area then became an integral part of regeneration plans for the Old Town with the decision being made that it would become much needed accommodation for Halton Borough Council residents. The council wanted apartments which would commemorate the site’s musical history but also combat noise coming from other musical venues in the area. The project team also needed to create a sense of community within the tough urban environment to give residents a place they’d be happy to call home.
