COUNTY AIRPORT MAKES BIG CHANGES Featured Project Black Hills Airport, also known as Clyde Ice Field, is a county-owned public-use airport located in Lawrence County South Dakota. This airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in South Dakota and serves as the gateway to Spearfish and the northern Black Hills area. Tourism, recreation, gaming, and industrial activity have spawned the area’s consistent growth in population. A variety of aircraft from recreational sizes up to large, turbo-jet powered corporate aircraft routinely operate at the airport. After KLJ completed the Environmental Assessment, our team began the design process to extend Runway 12-30 at the Black Hills Airport/Clyde Ice Field nearly 1,000-feet.
