Civil design and installations, Leicestershire, Bombardier, 2014 – Clancy Docwra Description: Civil design and installation of Automatic Train Control (ATC) signalling equipment by Bombardier Transportation. Challenges: The design and installation meant we had to provide a line-of-sight system of antennas and wireless network relay boxes over a stretch of approximately 3 miles, this required screw pile foundations and mast installations to support communication antennas.Key achievements and innovations: To fit 6m long masts we used a grab mechanism to the RRV arm which could pick up the horizontal mast at mid-span, rotate it 180 degrees to the vertical and hold it in place over the pile while the bolted connection was made. Location: Old Dalby test track, Leicestershire Client: Bombardier
