Case Study City of Knoxville, TN Living Green, Working Green Challenge: The City of Knoxville needed to replace its lead-acid battery backup systems (BBS) with a reliable, economical, environmentally friendly system able to withstand power spikes, and that could be housed inside the existing traffi c cabinet. The City found that the traditional lead-acid battery based product they had installed was unreliable and had an unpredictable life. The lead-acid fumes intensifi ed with Knoxville’s high temperatures, sometimes damaging the circuit boards. Damage could be as high as $20,000 per cabinet.
