Overview Carbon steel mixers to be utilised in a fish farm had to be coated with a system which would have no detrimental effect on the living environment of the fish. Previously coated stainless steel mixers could not handle the harsh “oxygen rich” salty water environment. Challenge A coating system with an extremely smooth finish capable of withstanding the harsh salt water environment, which was also approved for food contact, was required. Solution The carbon steel mixers were abrasive blasted to Sa 3 standard and coated with solvent-free Ceram-chemTM RP 500 by brush and roller. Outcome The solvent-free nature and smooth finish of the Chem- co system ensured that the mixers provided the fish a healthy living environment.
