CASE STUDY Until 2007, General Motors’ Spring Hill assembly plant built Saturn automobiles, a brand discontinued in 2010. Idle for a short time, the assembly plant reopened briefly for Chevrolet Traverse production, then closed for a few years, until 2012. Since then, the plant has been assembling the Chevrolet Equinox. Throughout this period the Spring Hill site’s engine and stamping plants continued operation, supplying other GM facilities.
