In January 2017, two days before the company’s leadership summit, the headline in the FT was “Bovis Homes chief executive departs after profit warning”. After much soul-searching, the company’s CEO of 18 years had left the business with immediate effect, leaving the Kent-based construction giant rudderless, and needing strong leadership. The Challenge Roger Morton, Performance Director at Bovis Homes, explains, “The business needed a fundamental change in behaviour, and that shift needed to come from the top. Bovis Homes operates on a regional structure, and each region has its own managing director, reporting to the board.
