CarbonWrap ® BRINGING A HISTORIC STRUCTURE UP TO SEISMIC STANDARDS Problem The historic Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Factory building in San Francisco was unreinforced brick that presented signifi cant seismic hazards. Due to the historic nature of this building, the least invasive technique was desirable to retrofi t the building. DowAksa CarbonWrap ® was selected as the most effective and effi cient technique to bring this historic brick building up to the current seismic standards. Solution The light weight of DowAksa CarbonWrap ® did not increase the weight of the building, therefore it required no foundation modifi cations. Furthermore, the less-than-1/8-inch thick DowAksa CarbonWrapTM on the walls did not reduce the fl oor space, as conventional techniques would have. GH
