Achieving BREEAM excellence for Liverpool's Central Teaching Labs Our structural and civil engineering consultants helped the Central Teaching Lab achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating and go on to win the inaugural S- Lab Award 2012 for ‘Best New Laboratory Building’ . Designed to be extremely energy efficient, the building incorporates a range of sustainability measures, including rainwater harvesting, a heat recovery system and solar panels. The multi-functional space incorporates laboratories, offices and teaching facilities to serve the needs of the main science departments within the University of Liverpool. A steel structure built around a central full-height atrium provides three floors of highly flexible laboratory space with the large plant room inset from the edge of the building
