1 PagesThe work consisted of driving 12 metre long 600mm wide Arcelor PU 22-1 and PU 18-1 steel sheet piles alongside the busy M6 motorway, forming a series of retaining walls. The ground conditions were granular overlying cobbles and stiff clay. The ABI TM 13/16SL Mobilram c/w MRZV17VV variable moment vibrator was particularly effective at driving the 12 metre long piles with minimum vibration. On occasions it was necessary to use the ABI MDBA auger drive and open flighted CFA augers to “stress relieve” the ground ahead of pile installation. Where oversized boulders were uncounted, they were dug out in advance of the piling.
