The site was closed due to a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) associated with a road widening scheme. Following site demolition, an environmental site investigation revealed hydrocarbon contamination in the chalk aquifer. A remedial solution therefore needed to be implemented at the site to address the identified impacts and associated potential environmental liabilities.
