HS 130 LV A Washington-based brown stock paper and paperboard mill presented a problem with OCC pitch and stickies deposition, and subsequent dryer section clean-up. The mill had been using several different products for the problem that cleaned pitch and stickies from the dryer felts. Unfortunately, issues inherent to the system conditions created an intolerable situation. Vapors and odors created by these products during cleaning generated on-going complaints and potential safety and health hazards to machine crews. The standard method for dryer section cleaning was to batch wash as required.
